Equity in Athletics

The Women’s Law Project is the leading legal advocate for gender equity in athletics in Pennsylvania. We work to strengthen Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which prohibits sex discrimination in federally-funded educational programs and requires schools to give women’s athletics equal opportunities and benefits. The WLP provided extensive written testimony to the Commission on Opportunity in Athletics of the United States Secretary of Education (see Press Release).

Over two decades, we have had numerous successes in challenging and changing athletics throughout Pennsylvania’s education systems (see Impact on Public Policy and Equity in Athletics: Litigation).

WLP will work with legislators in the Pennsylvania Senate and House to once again introduce a high-school athletics reporting bill which would require middle schools and high schools to report annually on their athletic participation data by gender and race.
