Impact on Public Policy

The Women’s Law Project has directly influenced policies affecting reproductive rights at both state and local levels. We have played a key role in state Medicaid rules on abortion funding for Pennsylvania women whose pregnancies resulted from rape or incest or whose lives were endangered by their pregnancies. We also obtained waivers of state regulations requiring expensive and medically unnecessary blood tests on every abortion patient, and on behalf of a group of reproductive health providers, the WLP advocated against the merger of two Pennsylvania hospitals that would have resulted in the elimination of reproductive health services.
