Some good news for the new year: Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter signed the policy that the Philadelphia City Council passed in October requiring employers to provide up to eight weeks of unpaid leave for survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence, and it went into effect yesterday.
The Women’s Law Project’s Managing Attorney, Terry Fromson, testified in support of this policy in June 2008, and the WLP applauds the mayor and city council for ensuring that survivors of abuse no longer have to worry about losing their jobs when they’re dealing with violent situations. We blogged about City Council’s unanimous passage of the bill in October.
