Abortion is healthcare and is still legal in Pennsylvania.

Women’s Law Project, like the rest of the country, has seen the leaked early draft of a U.S. Supreme Court opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that would overturn Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey.

The leaked document is a draft and does not change current law.

Overturning Roe and Casey would defy nearly 50 years of precedent to systematically deprive women and birthing people of bodily autonomy and economic security and drive patriarchal white supremacy even more deeply in our institutions.

The scope of harm cannot be overstated.

“Criminalizing abortion directly targets physicians and medical professionals, nearly one in four women and any birthing person who seeks abortion care, their family and friends, and nearly everyone with the capacity to become pregnant,” says WLP senior staff attorney Susan J. Frietsche. “Criminalizing abortion is a family separation policy.”

We still have some power. We are not helpless. Pennsylvanians angry at the prospect of the U.S. Supreme Court reversing Roe need to work to defeat Pennsylvania anti-abortion constitutional amendment Senate Bill 956, support pro-choice lawmakers and officials, and directly assist people seeking abortion care by donating to abortion funds like Abortion Liberation Fund and the Western Pennsylvania Fund for Choice.
