You did it! Thirty years and at least $134 million dollars later, anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers are defunded in Pennsylvania.

Together, we’ve been speaking up and calling for CPC accountability for many years. Here in Pennsylvania, CPC accountability begins with ending the contract with Real Alternatives, the controversial pass-through organization that has been dogged by years of unaddressed allegations of poor stewardship, to put it lightly.

The scandal behind the scandal is that pregnant Pennsylvanians urgently need legitimate support.

Next, we’ll be working to ensure the Department of Human Services, the state agency that administered the contract, reinvests that funding into unbiased, evidence-based programs that will provide best-practice support for pregnant Pennsylvanians.

Our CPC accountability work, meanwhile, continues: Real Alternatives oversaw only 28 of the state’s 156 anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers. We will continue to work to hold CPCs accountable for deceptive practices and how they target and treat pregnant Pennsylvanians and young people.

Take Action!

First, please take a moment to thank Governor Shapiro for taking decisive action and defunding Real Alternatives.

You can contact Governor Shapiro by calling his office at 717-787-2500 and/or via email or on twitter, facebook, and Instagram.

Second, if you have ideas about how those funds should be reallocated, let us know! What is needed in your community?

Email tmurtha@womenslawproject.org and we will review and consider responses as we advocate for unbiased, legitimate support for pregnant women and birthing people in Pennsylvania.

We are powered by your support. If you value this work, please consider making a donation
